2024 FIRST CHOICE 15 What is a medical emergency? It is a sudden and, at the time unexpected onset of a health condition or injury that needs immediate attention, where failure to provide such attention could result in the risk of loss of life or permanent damage to a bodily function or body part. What do I do in a medical emergency? Seek immediate medical attention: • If you are able to use your own transport, seek immediate attention at the nearest service provider or hospital. • If you do not have transport or you require specialised attention, call Netcare 911 on 082 911 for assistance over the phone or the dispatch of an ambulance. • You can also enter your details on the website (Member Login section) or mobile app under the Profile menu to request assistance in case of emergency. • If the emergency resulted in hospitalisation, CAMAF should be notified as soon as possible after admission. What services does Netcare 911 provide to CAMAF members? Netcare 911 provides CAMAF members with unlimited emergency service benefits while managing the medical care provided to members in the pre-hospital environment, including all associated transportation costs, on behalf of the medical scheme. • Emergency telephonic assistance via Health-on-Line. • Emergency response by road or air ambulance to the scene of the incident. • Transfer by road or air to the closest most appropriate medical facility. • Medically justified transfers to special care centres / inter-facility transfers as authorised by the Medical Officer according to the relevant established protocols. • Transfer of life saving medication / blood. • Companionship and/or care of stranded minors. • Repatriation of patient if hospitalised far from home. • Repatriation of mortal remains. • Access to Rape Crisis Centres of Excellence. • Free advice via the Netcare Travel Clinics. • The services extend within the borders of RSA, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland. What happens if, as a result of the emergency, someone else called an ambulance other than Netcare 911? Netcare 911 should be notified within 24 hours to qualify for the full benefit. What happens if I get medical attention from a Casualty department at my local hospital? Paid as part of your day to day benefit for the casualty visit and attending doctor. You will need to pay for the cost of the visit plus any materials used and submit the account for 80% CBT refund. Any medication given will be deducted from your annual medication limit. What happens if I travel outside South Africa and require emergency medical treatment? A cover of R5 million per beneficiary per journey for emergency unforeseen and unexpected medical costs while you travel outside of South Africa and you have declared your trip before departing. This cover is for a maximum period of 90 days from your departure from South Africa and ceases upon your return to South Africa. Refer to Travel Letter Wording. What do I do if I want to use this benefit? To arrange your cover and to get your Insurance Certificate, login on CAMAF website or mobile app and complete the form under the Benefits menu, My Cover. You can also contact the Travel Insurance Desk on 011 521 4504 and the consultant will assist you with issuing of your documents . Have your CAMAF member number handy so that you can be validated, together with your passport number, date of birth, destination and travel dates.
