Medication
What is the difference between Chronic
and Acute medication?
Chronic medication is medication taken for a long
term condition whereas acute medication is taken for
a short term until the medical condition is resolved e.g.,
headache, flu.
For how long is a prescription valid?
By law no prescription can be repeated for longer
than 6 months. Some medication, which, because of
the scheduling status (eg. Schedule 6 & 7), may not be
repeated without a new prescription each time from
your doctor.
How much medication can I get at a
time?
Prescribed medication is limited to one month's supply
at a time.
What is Over the Counter (OTC)
medication?
This is medication that can be bought over the counter
without a doctor's prescription. Many common medical
conditions can be treated successfully with such
medication - no benefit on this option.
