2024 ESSENTIAL PLUS & ESSENTIAL NETWORK 19 How do I know whether there will be a co-payment on my medication and what alternatives there are within the acceptable price limit? You can check whether the medication your doctor has prescribed will attract a co-payment or not and what alternatives are available by going to https://networks. medikredit.co.za/product_search/CAMAF/W and: • Select your Benefit Option from the drop-down list • Select "Yes" under Chronic Authorisation and then choose to either search by Product or Condition • Enter the name of your Product (Medicine) or Condition and search • You will then find out how much your Scheme will reimburse for your medication, if co-payments apply or which alternative medication is used for the similar condition. Your pharmacist is obliged to offer you a generic equivalent (if available) if there is a co-payment. This facility cannot give the exact value of the co- payment but it does provide a comprehensive list of medication and generic alternatives, showing which would attract a co-payment and which not. The Max Scheme Liability is the maximum amount that the Scheme will pay - this indicates the price of the medication (SEP) before adding on a dispensing fee. The Co-pay applies column will indicate if your medication will attract a co-payment or not. You will also see a list of all the medication within the same category as the medicine you have entered. If I need to have my repeat medication dispensed earlier than normal because I am going away, what do I need to do? Repeat medication may only be obtained 24 days after the previous supply. Should you need the medication to be dispensed before the 24 day period has lapsed, because you are going away, such arrangements should be made with the Disease and Medicine Risk Management department 14 days in advance. From what part of my benefit is payment made for the procedures and consultations related to my chronic condition? Consultations for PMB CDL conditions will be covered at cost, subject to protocols. If I travel for an extended period overseas how will I get my chronic medication? You can apply in writing for an extended supply of medication to be dispensed up to a maximum of 3 month's supply. This application should be made two weeks prior to departure. Should your stay extend beyond three months, motivation can be made to the Principal Officer. BACK TO CONTENTS PAGE
