2024 ESSENTIAL PLUS & ESSENTIAL NETWORK 16 Medication What is the difference between Chronic and Acute medication? Chronic medication is medication taken for a long term condition whereas acute medication is taken for a short term until the medical condition is resolved e.g., flu. For how long is a prescription valid? By law no prescription can be repeated for longer than 6 months. Some medication, which, because of the active ingredients, may not be repeated without a new prescription each time from your doctor. How much medication can I get at a time? Prescribed medication is limited to one month's supply at a time. What is Over the Counter (OTC) medication? This is medication that can be bought over the counter without a doctor's prescription.
