12 avoid Smokers and smoking places. not for good - we are not suggesting you dump all your smoking fiends – but it may be wise to avoid these powerful smoking triggers for a few weeks. Your friends will understand you, respect your commitment, and may even join you. remove & replace Smoking involves many habits and quite a bit of "stuff" (ashtrays, lighters, etc.). You need to get rid of all of the stuff and you might want to replace some of the habits. Ideas might include drinking more water, chewing carrot sticks, using a stress ball, chewing gum (nicotine or not), and even investing in some puzzles or "executive toys" to keep your hands busy. incentiviSe You have already worked out how much cash you'll save by quitting, and made a plan for using this windfall, but what about some other rewards? A massage each month you do not smoke? A dinner-out after two weeks? A weekend away after 3 months? The best idea is to write down some rewards and put the list somewhere where you'll see it often. talk Ex-smokers can sometimes be a bit "over the top" about the "evils" of smoking, and some caution is advisable here (it's easy to be boring or even offensive). What is a good idea though, is to talk about your quitting plans ahead of and after your quitting date. It becomes motivational and reminds you about all the good you're doing yourself. Just don't over-do this one please! SO, ThIS WEEK: Besides your basic quitting plan, please write down three other things you'll be doing to make quitting easier.
