6 IS IT SAfE fOR mE TO EXERCISE? this is an important question. nearly everyone Can exercise safely, and enjoy huge benefits too, but there are a few people who should always seek medical advice before starting an exercise programme: • those over 40 • Those who have not exercise for more than 12 months • The very overweight • Those with physical challenges such as amputees, stroke sufferers, etc. • Those on any form of chronic medication • Anyone with heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, or emphysema • Those with serious joint or spinal problems like arthritis and bad back pain • Those with injuries that impair free movement • Anyone who is worried about their health and ability to exercise safely Note: in neatly all these cases it will be quite possible, and very advisable, to get active and to exercise. It's just that some special caution and common sense may be needed, and certain forms of exercise are best avoided for some people. This needs to be discussed with your own doctor please.
