23 UMBILICAL CORD STEM CELLS - A REALITY TODAY, A FUTURE FULL OF POSSIBILITIES TYPES OF ADULT STEM CELLS Adult Stem Cells (ASCs) are 'Multipotent' Stem Cells that can be found after birth, in different parts of the body such as Umbilical Cord Blood, Bone Marrow or Fat Tissue. They have a more limited specialization capability compared to the 'Pluripotent' ESCs, but their collection isn't subject to any ethical concerns, and they have been used in Medical Therapies for over 40 years. Cryo-Save is involved in Umbilical Cord Stem Cell collection and cryopreservation since 2000. ADULT STEM CELLS HEMATOPOIETIC & MESENCHYMAL Among Adult Stem Cells there are two types that are at the core of Cell Therapy and will become the future of Regenerative Medicine. • Haematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs): Are responsible for rebuilding our Immune System and the different blood cells. These can be collected from Umbilical Cord Blood. • Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs): Are capable of specializing in many different Cell types such as Heart Cells, Cartilage Cells, Neurons, etc. We collect these from Umbilical Cord Tissue. Umbilical Cord Stem Cells have a high potential to proliferate Umbilical Cord Stem Cells are the youngest Adult Stem Cells Umbilical Vein Umbilical Artery Wharton's Jelly Umbilical Cord Blood Cells Umbilical Cord Tissue Stem Cells
