6 Waiting Periods & Exclusions When does CAMAF apply waiting periods and exclusions? • CAMAF applies 12 month exclusion on any pre-existing condition if the member has not been covered on a registered medical aid prior to joining CAMAF or if there has been a break of more than 90 days on medical cover. • Members joining via a member firm will have the first three (3) months free of underwriting provided they join CAMAF within the first three (3) months of their employment. Members joining CAMAF after the three (3) month period will be subject to underwriting as stipulated below. • If CAMAF becomes aware of a pre-existing condition that you failed to declare on the application form, a 12 month exclusion will apply for that condition even if you had previous medical cover. Continuation Members When does a member qualify to be a continuation member? • On retirement age (60+) • When you are medically boarded due to permanent or temporal disability • When the main member is deceased • On retrenchment, cover will be for a period of three months following retrenchment/mutual separation. What supporting documents are required to become a continuation member? • Continuation form must be completed. • A letter from your Human Resources department or administrator confirming retirement. • The debit order mandate form must be completed and submitted with proof of banking details , if different from credit details. • In the case of retrenchment a letter from your Human Resources department confirming your retrenchment, and the effective date. • For a deceased member, death certificate of the deceased and proof of banking details for the new member. Resigning your membership CAMAF requires a calendar month's written notice as per Scheme Rules. If a member is on CAMAF through a firm, the resignation request and reason has to be sent through to CAMAF via the HR department. What if I resign and still want to be a member of CAMAF? THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA MUST BE MET: • The principal member must be either a Chartered Accountant (SA) or must be a professional practising in accordance with their degree and belong to a professional association.
